Shop-floor systems that replace paper and spreadsheets.

Paper works right up until you need to answer a question about last Tuesday. Then it costs somebody an afternoon in a filing cabinet, and the answer arrives after the decision was already made.

This is the work I do most: replacing paper forms, shared spreadsheets, and tribal knowledge with systems that capture data where it happens and make it queryable the moment it lands.

What these systems look like

A production facility running my software typically has one login, role-gated modules per department, and a shared audit trail across all of them. Production reporting, quality records, traceability, digital work instructions and SOPs, equipment and maintenance work orders, safety audits, non-conformance and corrective action tracking. Each department sees its own work. Management sees across all of it.

They are built on Django and MySQL, hardened the same way regardless of size: per-module access control, brute-force lockout, and a full audit trail. In a regulated plant, being able to show who recorded what and when is not a feature request, it is the entire point.

Why they actually get used

Software that is written without understanding the process gets abandoned in about a month, because it asks operators to do more work than the paper form did. I have been the engineer on the receiving end of that. The systems I build start from the form or the spreadsheet that already exists, match how the work actually happens, and only then improve it.

The most common outcome is not a dramatic number. It is that reporting which used to move on paper now lands in a database the moment it happens, and there is one version of the truth instead of one per department.
